Refund policy

1. Free Shipping 
All orders that qualify for free shipping at checkout will be shipped via standard delivery at no cost to you. If you return an item, the original free shipping cost we incurred will not be deducted from your refund (we eat that cost).

2. Returns
We accept returns within 30 days of delivery for most unused, unopened items in original packaging.
- Return shipping costs are paid by the customer UNLESS:
  - The item was defective.
  - We made an error on your order.
  - You received a damaged item (we will email you a free return label).
- Custom or personalized hobby boxes cannot be returned unless damaged.

3. Refunds
Once we receive and inspect your return (typically 5-7 business days):
- Refunds go to your original payment method.
- Original shipping fees are non-refundable (except when we paid for expedited shipping and you qualified for free standard shipping).
- Free shipping qualification does not guarantee a full refund if you return partial orders.

Example:
- You order $50 of items → qualify for free shipping → return $20 worth of items → your order total drops to $30 → you lose free shipping eligibility for that order. We will deduct the actual shipping cost from your refund.

4. Exchanges (Damaged or Incorrect Items)
If you received a damaged or incorrect item, we offer free exchanges AND we cover return shipping. Email us a photo within 14 days of delivery.

5. Subscription Boxes (Important)
- Monthly subscriptions: Cancel anytime before the 25th of the month.
- No refunds for boxes already shipped unless damaged.
- Prepaid plans: Unused months refunded pro-rated.

6. Non-Returnable Items
Opened paints, glues, chemical products, digital products, gift cards, and unsealed mystery boxes.

7. How to Start a Return
Email support@tryhobbybox.shop with:
- Order number
- Item(s) to return
- Reason

8. Late or Missing Refunds
Check your bank account, then contact your credit card company, then email us.
